Thomas Higgins Sr. was a small farmer in Knockroe (near Cavetown in Estersnow) and raised a family there with his wife Mary Renny/ Rainey / Reiny.

  • His sister Honora Higgins and brother-in-law Patrick Renny (m. Brigid Noon)  sponsored the baptism of his son Daniel Higgins (1817- ).
  • Their neighbours Daniel Priest & Honor Regan were godparents to Thomas Higgins Jr (1827- ) and were likely extended family.

He was popular with his Knockroe neighbours/kin.

  • In 1834 he was invited to godparent by Bernard Harrington & Margaret Lennon of #7a Knockroe.
  • In 1835 Michael McGlynn & Mary Grimes invited him to godparent.

His landlord was Lord Lorton of Rockingham House. 

  • Tom Sr. appears on record in Knockroe's Tithe Applotment books of 1841 with about 9 acres (5 Irish aka Plantation acres) liable for tithes. 

  • By 1857 we can see he was living at #3a Knockroe with a holding of 16 acres (part bog) between John Cox and Daniel Priest

Thomas Sr. died sometime before 1865.
