Valentine Ryan was the son of John Ryan and Margaret Oates of Templeorum parish (Piltown). On 21 September 1836 in Kilmacow parish, he married Bridget Tobin. Valentine and Bridget lived at Buckstown next to Mullinavat until his emigration to America in 1852. Bridget followed with their three children in 1854. Valentine arrived in New Orleans on Christmas day 1852 and Bridget with children Margaret, Patrick, and Catherine arrived there on 21 March 1854. The family spent several years in Mississippi and then bought farmland in central Arkansas south of Little Rock where Val and Biddy and their children all died.
