William Gregg, son of William Gregg and Lucy Elliott, was born into the Church of Ireland in Derryhoo, in Drumlane parish, Cavan, in Ireland, in 1880.
He was a farmer and later worked as a land steward at Drenagh near Limavady, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
He married Isabella Moore in the parish church in Drumlane, Couny Cavan in 1907.
They had Violet Gregg in 1910, John Gregg in 1914 and William Gregg in 1915.
