Hi,
William McDowell married Elizabeth Burleigh. Her parents were Pierson and Elinor Morrow Burleigh. I believe Elizabeth had an older brother called Langford. I don't know the names of William's parents. The lot of them came from Dromore Parish, Down, but I don't know the exact town. William Jr was baptized in the Church of Ireland.
This William had a son, also named William, who married Elizabeth Ramsay around 1835, I think. I think their oldest was Samuel. They also had a Margaret, Mary Jane and other children, including Wm, III. The McDowells came to the United States in 1862 and settled in Phila, Pa. William III became a police officer and later became a gauger, who measured the amount of whiskey in barrels to determine the taxes. This McDowell was my mother's gf. He died around 1916 from complications from diabetes. I believe his middle name was James. But his oldest granddaughter told me his middle name was Ochletree.
His father, Wm Jr, died in the 1880s. He was a laborer of some sort.
I have a pix of William III.
Please let me know if this helps or you find connections.
Slan,
Paul
