William McElroy was born in 1797 and married Elleanor Brennan in 1814 in Boyle Roscommon. Their daughter Susan McElroy was born in Boyle in 1824 and married Thomas H Smythe in 1846 in Boyle. I am a direct descendant and they are my GGG grandparents! Does anybody know of them? We have an extensive family tree but are very keen to find out more about the McElroy family.

My Gr-Gr-Grandfather was an Adam McElroy b c1785 - d c1875 at Tinacarra, Boyle, Co Roscommon. We believe he married a Mary Kennedy d c 1905. They had (7) sons: Adam, Patrick, John, William, George [my Gr-Grandfather], Samuel & Richard.

Is it possible your ancestor William might be a brother of my g-g-grandfather Adam?

The given names William, George, Adam and Samuel are used frequently, even among the first cousins we've researched in and around Boyle, County Roscommon. My paternal grandfather was Adam Frederick McElroy and he was the first of his four brothers to emigrate to Lowell, Massachusetts, US.
