  • I believe this is my 2nd great grandfather who came to Canada as part of the British army to fight in the War of 1812 (against the USA).  There are many of us working on our family tree and none of us have been able to find any ancestors prior to William McFadden.  We would love to determine his parents and any siblings.

I found a partial copy of his British Army Service  Record with the following information

William McFadden born 1792 in Farman (parish) of Omagh, Tyrone, Ireland.   (some other documents list his birth year as 1789)

He was 19 on August 3, 1811 when he attested in Dublin to the military.

After the was was over he chose to remain in Canada, and settled near Ottawa, Ontario.

He died on Sept. 22, 1881 and is buried in Ashton, Ontario (near Ottawa, Ontario)
