Lough Fea House, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan
Lough Fea House, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan

The Shirley family owned the large Lough Fea estate in Co. Monaghan. The house was built in 1827 and is more square in its façade than other buildings of the Victorian era. It was designed by Thomas Rickman, an architect who played a major part in the Gothic revival. Lough Fea was his only executed work in Ireland, though the Shirley family did use his services in the redesign of their English house at Ettington Park, Warwickshire.
