Mary Leadbeater House
Mary Leadbeater House

In 1685, two Quakers named John Bancroft and Abel Strettel settled in Ballitore and established mills in the area. As more friends came to live and work in Ballitore, a Quaker village was eventually established.

This house was built around 1790 and is one of a complex of buildings associated with the Quaker village of Ballitore in the civil parish of Timolin, Co. Kildare.

The owner, Mary Leadbeater, was a member of the Shackleton family and a prominent figure in the Quaker community of her time.

The building was renovated in the 20th century and is now in use as a library.
