  • Carol in 1901 census Thomas and Mary are living in Cornalaur with 5 children, Mary Ann, Thomas, John, Katie and Michael and a John Kidney age 80 yrs.  I was wondering if this John Kidney might be Mary's father.

  • Hello Carol

Well this might seem a bit of a coincidence but are you related to Ed & Marie Dempsey and Carl & Holly Johanson?

About 25 years ago these people came to Rahan looking for their Kidney and Corcoran ancestors.  There are a few relatives of the Kidneys around (not too many).

While I said to you earlier that there were lots of Kidneys in Rahan - it looks like the families are not related to each other.

I will try and find out more over the next few days for you.

  • Seeking descendants or relatives of Thomas Kelly baptised on 27/11/1840 at Woodford Parish. His father Patrick had a farm near Portumna. He emmigrated to Australia in 1865 ( and then went to NZ 1967) and his brother William Kelly emmigrated at the same time to Boston, America. He was my great grandfather and my grandfather Patrick James Kelly emmigrated to Australia where my father Patrick Benedict Kelly was born in 1919 in Brisbane ,Qld the 3rd of 6 children. The farm at Portumna in Clonmoylan was occupied by by great great grandfather William a widower with his son John Kelly ( 1885-1956) and wife Julia who had no children. Patrick Kelly, my great grandfathers brother  lived in Clonmoylan in 1903 when my great grandfather visited him with my great Aunty Margaret then. My great grandfathers brother John took over the farm upon my great great grandfathers death and were helped by Julias nephew Patrick Gorman . John willed the farm to Julia who passed it on to Patrick Gorman who sold it in the 1970's. We did have a photo of it at one time. Winifred my great grandfathers sister ( 1879-1956) married Patrick Kelly and had 6 children. Some of the descendants of this siter and another one still lived in the Clonmoylan area as of the writing of the history I am taking the details from ( 1980's). Others migrated to England and America. William Kelly ( 1881-1954) as the eldest son would have normally taken over the family farm but a broken romance and an quarrel with his father caused him to leave home and settle in County Offaly. He married Winifred Elebert and they had 2 children , James who didnt marry and Bridget who became a Presentation nun.

  • I'm a Kelly descendant (GGS of Thomas Kelly's younger brother John) with some additional information on the family, including photos of the two brothers and one of the Clonmoylan house with (I believe) brother Patrick ("Patto") standing in the doorway in the early 20th century. If interested, I can be reached at casswriter@gmail.com.
