Hello!  Ann Craven is my 3X Great Grandmother born in Ireland around 1806. She married James Blanchflower (born in Ireland either 1801 or 1811)  in 1828 in Ashton Under Lyne England in 1828, so she migrated prior to 1828.  I would appreciate some guidance on identifying the county she may have been from.  She also may be known as Mary Ann Craven.

Unfortunately I don't know the county where James Blanchflower was born in Ireland either.  The 1841 and 1851 England Census identifies them both as coming from Ireland so I'm interested in finding out where - at least the county.

Thank you!

  • I searched rootsireland for Ann Cravens born 1801-1811 and found one:

    Anne Crevin

    Bap. 20-Mar-1808
    Living at Grange Road
RC Parish of RATHKENNY Co. Meath

    Parents: Thomas Crevin, Eleanor Weldon

I can't swear that this is your Ann, but it could be. Did she have children named Thomas and Eleanor? That would be a clue.

  • Thanks so much Patricia. I know of 5 children: Mary Kate(1828), Thomas (1831), Ann F (1834), James (1836) and Charles (1840). Ann married James Blanchflower (also from Ireland - parts unknown) but I don't know when (presumably before 1828).  All the children were born in Stalybridge, England.  I understand it is/was not uncommon for people in Ireland to move to England so this does not seem odd to me.

I got the children's name from the 1841 and 1851 England Census.  Eleanor does not appear anywhere.

  • Often the second daughter was named for the maternal grandmother; sometimes it was the first daughter.  That's why I asked about the children's names.
