Hi,

I am looking for records for Ann Jamieson born about 1832 from Athlone, Co Westmeath, Ireland.

Ann's parents were William Jamieson (storekeeper) and Sarah English.

Parental information from Ann's death record in Australia.  She died 6th December 1893 Nyngan NSW.

Year of birth from age at birth of daughter, Sarah Bouchier.

I found an entry on passenger list for ship "Columbia" arriving 1854 Sydney with Ann Jameson, age 23, General Servant, C/E, from Athlone, Co Westmeath and on different page of ship's list, a William Jamieson, age 21, Farm Labourer, C/E, from Athlone, Co Westmeath.

Cannot confirm if the Jamieson's on list are ones I am looking for but ages and places indicate could be Ann and maybe her brother.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi,
These are the Tithe records.  JAMESON is listed, none listed as Jamieson.
The Tithe Applotment Books, 1823-37 (nationalarchives.ie)
    Details of the Parish
St. Mary's, Athlone: Records, maps and place-names (johngrenham.com)
This is the site for Baptisms
St. Mary's, Athlone, Ardagh - Catholic Parish Registers at the NLI
I searched other sites and sorry but you will have to search in the Baptism records.
I cannot get into Griffiths Valuation toad I don't why!  I will try again.

  • Katja,

Subscription Site  www.findmypast.ie has a Weldon Jamieson in the area of Moate, Co. Westmeath.

No record found for Ann Jamieson. There is a Thomas Jamieson in Moate with a small shop.

The C/E on the ships manifest probably stands for Church of England.

    McCoy

  • Hi McCoy,

Thanking you for the links and records.

Yes, I was aware of C/E being Church Of England. Ann's burial was as Church Of England,  only her second marriage to Robert Moore was a Catholic one.

I will check all the information you have provided. It is very appreciated.

     Enjoy your day,

  • Katja,

There is a record of a William Jameson, Provision Dealer - Dublin Gate Street, Athlone - 1846 - Slater's Directory 1846.

Subscription Site  www.rootsireland.ie has a record of a Male child being baptised in Athlone - November 11th 1844.

Father: John Jameson, Dr. - Address: Highbury, London. Formerly of Boyne Valley - Athlone. Nothing further found!

Weldon Jamieson is Collector of Rates for the Union of Athlone.
