My maternal grandmother was Anne Mary Jones Born 19 February 1889 I believe at The Mill, Mourneabbey, Mallow, Her parents were John & Mary Jones (nee Casey). Anne was 1 of 12 children. She married Timothy Edward Martin in April 1925 in Cork. I think they moved to England not long after they married.
I'm very interested to know more about her life in Ireland before they came to England. I can't find much information about 'The Mill' Mourneabbey and wonder if it was a working mill? I'm also interested to know where she might have gone to school, the 1901 census shows they lived at Greenhill, Ballinamona, Cork., Anne must have gone to college somewhere after school because she trained as a midwife.
Any information will be gratefully received. Thank you.

Hi Penny, there was a Mill in Mourne Abbey, but it looks about 300 years old. A total ruin with Ivy growing all over it.
Your Ancestor Anne Mary Jones probably attended Mourne Abbey National School, which is still there as a School email
analeeth.ns@eircom.net email for secondary school, The Mercy Convent, which is still run as a Secondary School email
conventpsmallow@eircom.net She may have trained as a Nurse and Midwife in The North Infirmary Hospital run by the
Irish Sisters of Charity, This Hospital was closed down in 1981, and is now an Hotel
I will try and contact sisters of Charity to see if they kept records.
should you like to contact me my email address mallow1@irelandxo.com

Hi Margot
Thank you for your message. I had seen the 1911 census and dismissed it but I can see now that was Anne Mary! I haven't seen anything about her address on her marriage and thank you for that information.
Kind regards

Hi again Penny, I got no reply from Sisters of Charity An ad in The Mourne Abbey notes in The Weekly
Newspaper the Mallow Star, could help, I will find their email address if you would like me to. Its free if you mark it searching for relatives.
Also I feel there could still be Jones,s in the area, so I feel a letter addressed to The Jones Family Mourne Abbey Mallow Co Cork
could bring results.
Best of luck, let me know how you get on.

Hi Christina
Thank you for your message. I have written to Mourne Abbey National School ( unfortunately the email address would not work) and hope to get a reply.
You have given me so many suggestions and tomorrow I will try to place an ad in the Mallow Star (I found the email address online) and will write a letter to 'The Jones Family'. It's always worth trying and thank you so much for the suggestion.
I'll let you know if I hear anything
Kind regards
Penny
