Since I have come to a brick wall on one side of my family I decided to look on the other side. I have found conflicting information and not sure how to decipher what is true so here is what I think I have on my ggggg grandfather and hopefully someone can help:

John Crage is his name and he if from Ireland (I have also heard maybe Scotland). I believe he married Rebecca Drurey. I know that his daughter Martha Jane Crage was born Oct 1, 1833 in Canada. Martha married Lyman Deforest June 17, 1851 in Sanilac County Michigan.

I would like to find any information on John and any more ancestors. Where they are from, birthdates, marriages, children, etc. I seem to have the luck of having common names and little information but I'm determained to find out more. Any help is appriciated.

Thank you

Brandy

  • Hi Brandy,

John Crage, Rebecca and family are on the 1901 England Census (attached).

John was born in Tavistock, Devon England.

    Best regards

  • I don't think that is the same person. Thier daughter Martha Crage Deforest was born in Canada in 1833 and the person on the census was born about the same time. Thank you for trying but my John and Rebecca Crage would need to be older than the one you found

  • I'm also not 100% on the wifes name being Rebecca. Everything I am finding has different spouse names. If I can find something that ties Martha Jane Crage (daughter) in with John Crage it would help. Only thing I am 100% on is Martha Jane Crage born Oct 1 1833 in Lower Bedeque, Prince Edward Island, Canada and she married Lyman Deforest  born 1834 in Canada. They were married June 17, 1851 in Sanilac County Michigan.

  • Sorry Brandy - I was a bit hasty!

I've had another look on ancestry and found a couple of death records for Martha which are attached.

The first one has the Deforest connection but the second has the P E I birthplace and father William.

Do you have access to ancestry?

  • I do have access. As a matter of fact I found the death certificate yesterday (I couldn't attach it, it said file too big). Which it looks like the first one you found. Sadly all I get is John Crage from Ireland so I'm stuck where I was a couple days ago. Finding Irish records from that long ago is very difficult :( And it doesn't help that my family has common names. I mean on this side I have John Crage no birth year no nothing. On the other side I have William Moore born June 24, 1832. Both are from Ireland but I don't know where in Ireland. I don't have parents name or anything. I've got the information on decendents of theirs just not ancestors. It gets a little frustrating but I am determained to keep trying.
