I would dearly love to find for sure the parents of Anthony Sutton b. approx. 1803 about 12 miles from Dublin in County Wicklow. He emigrated to Upper Canada sometime between 1818 and 1837. There is a possibility the parents are Henry Sutton, born approx 1776, and Patty (Leighton?) Sutton. I think twelve miles from the centre of Dublin could be along a parallel with Bray, Enniskerry and Glencree. Or, twelve miles from the outskirts of Dublin in the 1830s might be as far as the townland of Glasnamullen.

Help much appreciated.

The subscription site Roots Ireland has two possible leads both Church of Ireland.

There was an Anthony Sutton baptized July 7 1805 Powerscourt Church of Ireland parish in Co. Wicklow. Father was Thomas Sutton and mother was Jane no last name provided.

The second record was February 28 1808 in the Delcany Church of Ireland parish in Co. Wicklow. Father was Anthony Sutton and mother was Anne no last name provided.

  • Thank you, Roger. You have provided a possibility that I haven't come across before. I know it isn't the Anthony born to Anthony and Anne. That Anthony did not emigrate to Upper Canada. But this is the first time I have heard of the Anthony baptized at Powerscourt. How would I access the Powerscourt Records?

You would have to get a short-term subscription to Roots Ireland but those records are transcriptions. The actual church records for Powerscourt are held in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin.   https://www.ireland.anglican.org/about/rcb-library/list-of-parish-regis…
