I am searching for details regarding my 2nd great grandfather Edward George Martin born about 1812 died 1868 in Cork. The few details I have have been provided by relatives and a little from Ancestry.  I understand he was married to Elizabeth but have not been able to find much about her and unfortunately do not know her surname.  They had 5 children William, Edward, James Stewart, Anne & Catherine.  If anyone can point me in the right direction to find out more about Edward & Elizabeth I would be very grateful.  Thank you

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and found one record of intereat. There was a baptismal record for James Stewart Martin born Juen 30 1844 and baptized September 8 1844. The baptism was in the Brigown Church of Ireland parish. Parents shown as Edward Martin and Elizabeth (no maiden name provided). I did not find a marriage record or baptismal records for the other children. According to their index, Roots Ireland has Brigown Church of Ireland records back to the late 1700s. Possibly the other children were baptized in a different parish which no longer has records back to that period. I also did not find a record for Edward Martin around 1812.

Brigown is a civil parish in the northeast corner of Co. Cork. The record showed the family lived on Cork Street in the village of Brigown.

I checked the 1852 Griffiths Valuation for Co. Cork and there were a number of Edward Martin records but they all were in Cork city.

  • Penny,

Some of the trees on Ancestry give the child Catherine's birthplace as Ballymahon, Longford. I looked at her 1864 birth record and her parents were not Edward and Elizabeth.
