I recently came across a record on Ancestry (attached) that may be a record of my ancestor John Dowd who lived and died in Athlone. However, the place name given by the indexer has me perplexed and I am unable to find Arcamey on Roscommon County maps. If any readers with a better knowledge of Roscommon that I have could advise on this entry, I would be very appreciative. Perhaps the indexer misread the original document or perhaps the place has been renamed or no longer exists?

There is a townland and a civil parish in the north of Co. Roscommon called Ardcarn. However, if he lived and died in Athlone which is in the south of the county then Ardcarn might not be correct. It is also possible that he was born in Ardcarn and then went south to enlist at the barracks in Athlone.
Below are the five townlands in Roscommon which are in the general Athlone area which start with "AR".
