I am having tremendous difficulties find information on an ancestor, Archibald McNeal.  He was apparently born in Antrim County around 1725.  He emigrated to Colonial America around 1747.  And he resided in the Talbot County, Maryland USA from approximately 1760 - 1810.  I cannot find birth, marriage or death information about this relative.  It is also suspected that he had 10 children in the USA.  Can anyone help me with this record?

  • I can’t help with possible records on Archibald in the USA, but as far as records of him in Ireland are concerned, it is very unlikely that there are any. Ireland has very few records for the early 1700s and what does exist is very patchy. Unless you know exactly where he came from (ie parish or townland) and what precise denomination he was, its unlikely you will find any record of him in Ireland.

  • Hi Michael,

In the 1851 census there was an Archibald McNeil, age 60, listed with his family members. I'm wondering if he could be a descendent of your McNeil's - it might be worth checking the area listed:

Address: Killyglen Townland, Enumeration District: Grangekillygle.

    Kind regards,

    Teresa
