Hello, I'm trying to track down my Great Grandmother, Eunice Hyacinth Goodeve, born 1895, birth certificate. She was born in the British Miltary  Barrack at Mallow, Cork and hence no parish records exist of her. Her father, Leonard Thompson Goodeve, was in the British Army. I'm having trouble finding miliary records before 1920s. Can anyone assist or have any ideas of where to look for these records. The National Archive in UK are post 1920s records.

  • Charlene,

Please see attached re Leonard Thompson Goodeve. You will need to purchase the record.

1921 census for England and Wales has a record of a Leonard T. Goodeve with the folowing: Leonard T. Eunice and Patricia with three others. Could this be the person you are trying to trace?

  • Dear McCoy and Roger,

Thank you so much for your assistance. Yes, as his father was a Staff Sargarent in K.R.R. and we do know that he served in India for a time.

Do you know how I would go about getting the baptism or birth certificate?

I've tried searching through National Archives at Kew and GRO and nothing comes up. I think that her birth was registered with the British Military despite being stationed in Mallow, Cork.

    Thanks again, Charlene

  • Charlene,

It is 50/50 whether or not you can find details of her birth, other than the sheet showing her birth in Mallow in 1896. Her birth was possibly in 1895, but it took time to have the record made on the "Overseas BMD" Record.

You can check with gov.uk website and give her details - name - Year - Regiment - Place - Vol - Page and see if they can advise you.

Subscription site Mallow Heritage in Mallow, Co. Cork may be able to advise you.

    Best Wishes,

  • Hi Charlene,

Your great-great grandmother was one of my grandmother’s older sisters. I recommend going through your great-great grandmother’s marriage certificate (which I have the GRO index for, if you would like to order it) to hopefully obtain her birth registration.

I have Leonard’s and his father’s military records and willing to share these with you; however, please contact me as to how I can share all this information with you privately.
