I am trying to trace records for the origins of my grandmother [Harriett Bamberry] .  She emigrated, aged 4, with her parents (George Bamberry and Eliza [neeHayes] ) and 7 siblings (Mary 16, Allan 15, Charles 12, Fred 9, William 8, George 6, Martha 2) in 1884 from Galway.

Information from marriage and death certificates (Australian) indicates a place variously spelt Clonashe/ Clonashias in Galway.

East Galway Family History Society have located records of 3 children, Frederick, William and George born to a George Bambury/Banberry or variant and Eliza Bambury/Banberry in Church of Ireland records in the town of Eyrecourt in a townland called Clonashaise. 

I have no records of the Bamberry family prior to their sailing from Plymouth on the "Merkara" on 9 Apr 1884.

    this list for the ship Meridian may be of some use in your quest to solve part of the Bamberry family question. It contains a number of the names that you are seeking. I am not fully sure what it is telling us but I think it is worth folllowing up on. It does not mention the townland from where the family came other than locate them in Co Galway and it is earleir than 1884. Never-the-less it may in fact relate to ancestors of your own Bamberry line. I am the one who sent you the little piece of folklore relating to the family while they were in Clonashaise.

    Please accept my apologies for my mistake in not replying to you.  Thank you for the interest you have shown in my search and your assistance.

    Yes, it is some time since you contacted me.  I made a mistake thinking your reply was an email and went searching for it.  And then I informed the Galway Heritage Society that i hadn't received them.

    Despite admirable assistance from East Galway Family History Society, I have had no luck in obtaining a record of my Grandmother's birth.
