Hi!
May I please get some help with a couple of MURPHY baptismal entries in the Catholic Parish Registers at the NLI at https://registers.nli.ie? I'm looking for the baptism in December 1738 of Allice (aka 'Ally) MURPHY in the Wexford Parish, Diocese of Ferns, County Wexford. I've found 2 MURPHY entries in the Wexford parish, microfilm 04252/01 on the same page (see attached image) but the centre fold in the page obscures almost completely the christian names of the 2 MURPHYs. Is anyone able to actually view the microfilm and decipher the 2 christian names for me please? I'm hoping that one of the 2 entries is that for Ally MURPHY. Cheers Daryl Francis MURPHY, Brisbane, QLD, Australia (dasmurphy@hotmail.com).

Daryl:
I can't make a guess on the first record. The name on the second record could be James. Check out some of the other James records above-one is a father and the other was a sponsor.

Thanks Roger for your educated guess.
I don't mean to be disrespectful, however, but what I was hoping was for someone to actually view the parish baptismal entry - perhaps at the NLI.
Cheers from Australia

Daryl:
The NLI only has what you see online. We do not have a volunteer in Wexford town. Can I suggest you contact the parish and see if an office person might be willing to check the parish register. The book is almost 300 years old so the book may be very fragile.

Thanks Roger. I've taken your advice and sent an email to the Wexford Catholic Parish office.

Jim Staples, Sacristan at the Church of the Immaculate Conception Rowe St, Wexford, kindly looked closely at the baptismal register for me and emailed me his thoughts on the names in the actual register. I appreciate his time and effort and I'm just posting this message to acknowledge his effort. Thanks again Jim.
Cheers, Daryl

I'm curious. What was the outcome of Jim's review?

Daryl,
In response to your email, I had a look at the entry in the 1738 original register from which the microfilm was taken from. I think the names are Andrew and James. If you look at the name 'Andrew' in the columns above it does look similar. I took a few photos with the pages as spread as possible without damaging them. I attached a number of photos.
I can't see the name Ally. If Ally is a 'pet' name it's unlikely to be allowed to be used and they would put in Alice.
Sorry I can't be of more help.Just by the way, I am originally from Cregg, Mayglass. My brother Frank and family still live there.
Regards,
Jim Staples.
Sacristan.
