Okay I have found a document that I strongly believe is my 3x's great grandfather (Nathaniel Barber), mentioned in an immigration document of what appears to be his unknown brother (James) ... James was married to Mary (unknown maiden name - 1789-1860) however we knew absolutely nothing about him, including his given name which now appears to be James. They apparently had six boys, and came to Canada early on in the 19th century. Nathaniel (1785-1875), who it states was from Killarven, Drumhilla, Co Monaghan (please correct me in the proper order they are usually placed in), married Elizabeth Williams (1786-1871), and had three sons, and possibly 1 daughter in Ireland before coming to Canada about 1831-1836. I am looking for anything related to the family, in particular Nathaniel & Elizabeth, including their immigration information, plus any other family data. I would so much love to crack open this "brick wall" and visit my ancestral homeland, while I am still reasonably able. I will include the document I believe is Nathaniel and his one brother...a third brother Francis also travelled to Canada with his wife Margaret, but they apparently had no children.

The townland is Drumhillagh in Killeevan civil parish.
The 1825 Tithe listings for Killeevan civil parish shows James and Nathaniel Barber leasing land in Drumhillagh. This page is very faint but perhaps you will have some success reading how much land they were leasing.

I will make the assumption that your Barber ancestors were Church of Ireland. Records for Killevan C of I parish go back to 1811 but they are not available online. According to this listing (see link below), the record are held at the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. I believe they have a project to digitize their holdings but you will likely need to pay to have someone search the records.

Immigration data is not available.
FYI there were no Barbers in Killeevan parish in the early 1860s when the Griffiths Valuation survey was conducted.

Roger: As experienced as I figure I am when it comes to Genealogy, I have been dumbfounded by Irish research. Your short little reply has certainly enlightened me and brought me to a point that I think I can carry on nicely. Thank you sir for this input.
