I located a record in the Tithe Applotment Books, 1823-37 for Barney Malone with information as listed in the Title. I am hoping this might be my GX3 Grandfather who was married to Mary Malone. I found Mary's gravesite on Find-A-Grave. She was born circa 1809/10 in Irelane and died in 1881 in Oyster Bay, NY, USA. This is as close as I have gotten over the years to trying to discover my roots in Ireland. It might be a leap to think this Barney Malone is actually her husband. How do I research any further with this piece of information? Anyone have an ideas to help me dig deeper?

Did Barney Malone emigrate to America with Mary? Do you know his year of birth? If he was also born around 1809-1810 then the Tithe record would not be for him since it was an 1824 record.
Have you considered DNA testing? Possibly you will get matches that may assist you in determinign where your ancestors came from in Ireland.

EJ,
It's doubtful Barney was related to your Mary. Malone is a very common name in Ireland, so unless you know that her husband was Barney and he was from Laois, choosing him is a bit of a shot in the dark. However, all is not lost. Why not trace Mary, starting with her 1881 death, and go backwards? Look at the U.S. census records and see what they say about her. Perhaps you will find her living with her husband and children. Look at her death record and her U.S. or Irish church and/or civil marriage records. Her obituary. Etc.
She is buried with James Malone, husband of Isabella, and their daughter, Maggie. Perhaps trace them as well. Eventually, something may lead you back to Ireland.
Good luck.
