Benjamin Cavanagh was born in London in 1816, the son of Benjamin Cavanagh and Matilda Fletcher. It is not known if the elder Benjamin came from Ireland but given the last name, either Benjamin senior, his parents or grandparents came from somewhere in Ireland.

I wish I had some clue as to where my Cavanagh ancestors came from in Ireland. Can anyone help?

  • Hi

    Thank you for your message.

Do you have any additional information regarding your Cavanagh's? Do you know if and when they may have emigrated to London?

  • I do have lots of information going forward from Benjamin Cavanagh but, unfortunately, nothing to tie them back to a specific place in Ireland or a date that they would have moved from there.

What I have is an entry for the marriage of Benjamin Cavanough of St Andrew Holborn, batchelor to Matilda Fletcher widow, May 29, 1815. They were married by license. Their son Benjamin was born Feb 7, 1816. I believe that they also had Frances Mark John in 1817, and Charles in 1821.

I have the rest of my Cavanagh family line going forward if it is of any interest to you. It is all in the East End of London until WWII disrupted lives and offered opportunites which resulted in my immediate family moving to Montreal.
