Hi all,
I am looking for any Irish information on Patrick Blakeney (3rd great grandfater) DOB approx 1815 Athy Kildare and his brother Michael Blakeney DOB approx 1822 Athy Kildare. I have most of the Australian information that I need, but nothing on the Irish side of things prior to arrest.
Both sent to Australia in 1838 for 7 years for receiving a stolen pig, both were butchers.
Any information would be greatly appreciated - thanks Brett

  • Brett,

Per Roots Ireland, here are some records for the RC parish of Athy. There are gaps from Jul 1812-Jun 1815 & Jan 1817-Dec 1821, so I did not locate a Patrick; but below are his possible family members....there could also have been more before Michael if they fell into the gaps years.

Michael Blakney 31 Mar 1822, parents Hugh Blakney & Catherine Moran, sponsors Patt & Margaret Moran

Margaret Blakney 13 Mar 1825, parents Hugh Blakney & Catherine Moran, sponsors James Toole & Cath. Beacon

Hugh Blackney 23 Sep 1827, parents Hugh Blackney & Catherine Moran, sponsors James & Sarah Lawlor

Mary Blakeny 26 Jul 1829, parents Hugh Blakney & Catherine Moran, sponsors John & Peggy Moran

Patt Blakeny 3 Jul 1832, parents Hugh Blakeny & Catherine Moran, sponsors David Braddish & Mary Moran

For Michael's birth, the address was Ardree, and for Margaret's it was Spring Lodge. No other addresses were given.

    Regards,

    Carolyn

  • Brett,

To add to Carolyn's Post, please see attached records: Tithe record is 1824 - In Roots Ireland the first name for Mary's father is recorded as "Loughlin" which may "Lorcan", a fairly common first name in parts of Ireland.
