I'm trying to trace my family roots prior to visiting Ireland in July 2013. Lewis Bourke, born 1835 married Catherine Shay, born 1838. They emigrated to Jersey, Channel Islands where they had seven chidren, Ellen b 1860, John b 1861,Mary Ann b 1863, Edward b 1864 (my great grandfather), Catherine b 1866, Lewis b 1867, Margaret b 1870. The family oriinated from Caherelly East where they rented a farm of 12 acres from Thomas Wilkinson although Lewis was a stone mason. I would be grateful for any information about either the Bourke or Shay families or the location of the farm and whether any historcal records (births, marriages etc) are held locally.

The Griffiths Valuation survey was conducted in Co. Limerick in 1853. The data for Caherelly parish shows a Lewis Bourke as a head of household in Caherelly East townland. Not sure if this is the Lewis born in 1835 or maybe his father. There are also records for four Sheas in Caherelly East..There are Church records available for the RC church in Ballybricken for 1801-1825. I think the name of the current church is St. Ailbes.
