Hi Folks, I am seeking information on Michael Brennan and his family.  Michael left Ireland in 1863 with his family, wife Anne Bradshaw?? and their three daughters Margaret born 1860, Bridget born 1862 and Mary born 1863) Mary died on the voyage to Australia.  The family arrived in Australia on the IDA 18 Jan 1864 where their son Patrick was born shortly after arrival.  The information I have indicates that the Townland they came from was Drom Inine Baoth (Dromeen Boy)Coounty Luimneach- Limerick,  Barony Ni Chuanach/Coonagh, Civil Paris Grian/grean Not sure but Parish Variants are listed as Ahane, CastleConnell and Ahane, Docese Killaloe.  From information found in Deposit Journals and shipping records Michael's parents were John and Mary living in Castle Connell.  Relativies living in the colony was a brother in law Jeremiah Coffey or Coffie living in Sydney Australia.  The referee for the family was the Parish Priest, Drummonboy County Limerick.  I would appreciate any help possible to gather further information that could add to the family history.  I would be happy to provide information about the family after their arrival (my mother is a descendant of Michael).   Thanks for your help,  Helen

  • Hi HelenT,
I am not related to you, I just help searching.
I found a Mary born 25th August 1859. same parents. Right hand page. Says, Mary of Ml (that would be Michael) Brennan and Nancy (Anne, most Ann's are called Nancy) Bradshaw.
Sponsors John Bradshaw and Mary Brennan.

This is the Parish book, hard on the old eyes, but you would find the info.  If you are a member of Ancestry you would get the same list in there. (not sure if you would need WorldWide membership)

These books don't always have death listed.
The Civil records were intoruduced in 1864, so we rely on the Parish books the Tithe records and Griffiths Valuation. (Google these and you will see them)
    Cheers
    Margot

  • Thanks Margot, I certainly appreciate your time looking at this.  I have logged into Ancestry and found the parish records.  It has helped explain the name usage for Anne (Nancy).  Once again thanks very much.  Helen

  • My great grandmother was a Coffey , she was a descendant of Jeremiah Coffey (1823-1987)and Margaret McLaughlin from Castleconnell. There 6 children were to be assisted migrants to Sydney  during the 1850's, Jeremiah Jnr, James, Michael ,Thomas , Margaret Theresa and  Mary. I would be happy to assist any queries and would love to explore my irish heritage . My email robbarbera@bigpond.com

  • How is your research going on? I am planning to write my research paper on one famous family, but I am not sure I can find facts and family history fragments on archives. So I hope to find some help from you here guys, or I will have to ask help from https://au.edubirdie.com/research-paper maybe some professional writers will find. But, this paper important for me, that is why I will try to find and write it all by myself.

  • Hello Helen T
My family of Maloney & Hickey are from Castleconnell too.
I research anybody from Castleconnell & NSW.
Today I have found Jeremiah Coffey as a relative of Michael Brennan & Ann who arrived in 1864 per 'Ida'
Jeremiah dies in 1893 at Surry Hills & the newspaper lists lots of relatives.
Are we able to help each other please ?
