Hi.

Looking for information on my g-g- grandparents, Bridget (Gorman) and Dennis Sullivan.

Bridget lived 1844-1901 while Dennis 1843-1916.

They had a son, Michael, March 13, 1872 somewhere in County Kerry. Then immigrated to the US. My g-grandmother, Mary Jane (Mamie) was born in the States. Eventually they settled in Whiteside County, Illinois where they farmed. They are buried in Fulton, Illinois.

I haven't been able to find their Irish roots. Any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I've been searching the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie for Co. Kerry church records. I've not found any records with a Denis Sullivan/Bridget Gorman combination. If they were from Ballincushlane parish then the related RC parishes would be either Castleisland, Brosna or Knocknagoshel. The Brosna records start late 1868.

www.irishgenealogy.ie also has civil birth records for 1864-1916. I looked at the 1872 civil birth records for Michael Sullivans in the Tralee registration district and did not see the record

Do you have any other info on your ancestors which migh help locate records.

  • Hi Roger.

Thank you for your effort. I actually only know the Michael's information says he was born in Kerry Ireland. I don't have a Parish. When I posted this, I was trying not to assign it to a Parish but only associate with the County.

I also looked on irishgenealogy.ie but could not find a marriage record for Bridget and Dennis or a birth record for Michael with parents Bridget and Dennis.

I expanded the search to all of Ireland and used the subscription site Roots Ireland but had the same result, no marriage record or a baptismal record for Michael.

I also looked at all the other civil birth records in Co. Kerry (another 35) and did not see the record. He may have adjusted his year of birth when he came to America.

It will take a lot of work but you could look at the Michael Sullivan birth records for 1871, 1870, etc and see if can find the record. The Co. Kerry registraition districts are Killarney, Tralee Cahersiveen, Kenmare, Listowel and Dingle. Use www.irishgenealogy.ie Civil Records TAB.

  • Hi. My sister found Michael W. Sullivan's baptismal record. He was born 13 April 1872. Dennis's name on the record is spelled Denis.

Also, she found his birth name may have been Dionysius or Dionysius.

Finally, the baptismal record says they were from Killorglin. We have not identified a townland yet. The writing on these records is extremely challenging to decipher.

Any chance this is enough info for someone to identify these folks? The all immigrated to the US and settled in Illinois in the Fulton, Albany and Meredosia area. (Whiteside County).

I went thru the civil birth records on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie for 1872 in the Killarney registration district (which includes Killorglin) and found an April 3, 1872 record for a Michael Sullivan. His father was Denis but his mother was Bridget Sullivan Sullivan not Bridget Gorman Sullivan.

Can I see the record your sister located? FYI Dionysius is Latin for Denis.
