As far as I understand it gdpr is aimed to give EU residents more control of their personal data. The law places more stringent legal requirements on those companies and organizations who collect and process personal information. This doesn't appear to apply here . What I am doing is posting a notice ( as I would in a newspaper ) seeking information about Breda Keane . If any individual has such they would most certainly not be in breach in disclosing it . 

Hello. Mike. All family history websites I've used have a similar rule. Posts on this site show up on an internet search. If anyone were to post information as you requested, then that would show on an internet search. You cannot predict what a reply might contain. This site might then inadvertently collect, process and publish personal information.

  Some people may be very annoyed to discover that information about them had been posted on the internet without their permission. I'm one of those people. Some people have good reasons for not wanting to be found.

Every other FH website also has a rule about not posting personal email address to avoid spamming. They have personal message systems. What is policy and procedure re email on this site?

Both these rules are for protection of users and others.

I am merely a user of this site expressing my opinion and experience of similar forums.
