  • John:

I checked the Griffiths Valuation survey for all of Ireland (1848-1864) and there were no Bromptons or Brumptons listed. Is it possible they were from England? I checked the 1901 and 1911 census records and found one Brompton Family in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. The husband was not listed in either record indicating that he could have been in the military or involved with shipping. Note in the 1901 census the oldest son (a twin) was named George and I'm going to speculate that the husband of Margaret was a son of George Brompton and Ellen Donohue.

  • Hi John,

I searched rootsireland.ie marriages for George surname blank spouse Ellen Donohue 1862 Cork and got the attached result.

I then checked the parish and it was Fermoy Church of Ireland.

You can purchase the record for a few $ on the site after registering if you wish. It will give you parents' names.

    Best regards
