Hello - I am trying to trace my great-great-great grandfather's family. His name was Thomas Brooks, born circa 1820s, died in New Zealand in 1865. His wife was Mary Jane Sweeny. A DNA match, who also matches to other Brooks descendants in New Zealand, is a descendant of Joseph Brooks who married Johannah Harrington in Kilroe, 18 October, 1855. His father's name was John. One of Joseph's children was named Thomas.

Going by the amount of shared DNA I have with this match, I suspect my Thomas Brooks may have been a brother of her Joseph Brooks. Is there anyone who is able to help find out more about this family. I do not know anything more about my Thomas Brooks unfortunately.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Kilroe civil parish corresponds to Kanturk RC parish which is in the Diocese of Cloyne and records for that diocese are on the subscription site Roots Ireland. I did some searches for Thomas Brokks and Brooks in general and was not having any success. I then switched to the other diocese in Co. Cork, the Diocese of Cork and Ross. Records for that diocese are on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie   I located a Thomas Brooks/Mary Sweeny marriage in 1844 in Schull East parish and baptismal records for three children: John November 1844 Ellen 1846 Elizabeth March 1847  I did not locate a baptismal record for Thomas Brooks. There were Mary Sweeny baptismal records in 1826 and 1828 in Schull East and possibly others. Without knowing her parents names, hard to confirm which may be the correct record.
