I have found two sisters buried with my great great grandmother. They were Delia Butler Phelan and Margaret Butler Kelly. They were born around 1838 and 1840 in County Offaly to Patrick Butler and Catherine Kelly.
These two sisters emigrated to the US in the 1860's and lived in New York City. I feel that my great great grandmother must be somehow related to the two since they are in the same gravesite.
I have looked at death certificates, addresses, etc,. and still can't break the puzzle. My great great grandmother is elusive as well. Her name was Christina Leavy. She married my great great grandfather whom I don"t know his first name. His last name was Ryan. Where they married is a mystery as well. My great grandfather was born in NYC in 1858. I have not found a birth on him.
Quite a mystery.

Hi,
Thank you for your message. This is a mystery indeed!
Was Christina born in Ireland or the US or did she emigrate there? If she emigrated have you tried looking into this? Is it possible that she travelled to New York with the sisters? Here are some websites that yo umay find useful:
US National Archives/Immigration info: http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/
Castlegarden: http://www.castlegarden.org/
Family Search Links: https://www.familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/Ireland_Genealogy_Websites?goback=.gde_3030105_member_230205486#Emigration_Records_.2FPassenger_Lists
I did a search for Patrick butler in Griffith?s Valuation. This is a property valuation survey that was carried out in Ireland 1848-64. It doesn?t give any genealogical information but can sometimes be used to tie a person to a specific place. Three results came back;
It is possible that one of these parishes,Templeharry, Kilbride and Rahan, is the Butler sister?s parish of origin.
I then did a search for Leavy?s in Co. Offaly and there was a Michael, James and John Leavy also recorded as living in Kilbride parish, Offaly. I wonder is this a coincidence or perhaps this is where the connection between the Butlers and Christina is?
Are any of these names or place names found in your research?
