John Callaghan and Johanna Meara married @ Church of St. Mary's Killarney on 22/11/1817. Their children, Mary, Daniel, John, Cornelius, Bartholomew, Michael, Ellen, John and Patrick were all baptised at St. Mary's between 1819 and 1842. My gggrandfather Bartholomew left Ireland late 1840's and is found in Schuylkill County Pennsylvania in the 1850's. Interested in finding descendents of his siblings and family genealogy earlier than 1817.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
In order to go further back than 1817, you will probably need to continue using church records. Church records in Killarney parish have quite an early start date:
Did you know that you can view church records from Co. Kerry online at http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ ?
You could try looking in Griffith?s Valuation to see if you can find some record of Bartholomew?s siblings. This is a property valuation survey that was carried out 1848-1864, although it doesn?t offer any genealogical information it can sometimes be used to tie a person to a specific place.

Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so any births, deaths or marriages in the family after this date would be recorded in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:

You can search the indexes to these records up until 1958 online at:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
You could also try searching in the 1901/1911 census records to see if you can find record of his siblings families still in the area at the time. These records can offer lots of interesting/useful information:

Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The US National Archives: http://www.archives.gov/

Family Search: www.familysearch.org
You could also try contacting the Local Studies Department of Kerry COunty library to see if they can offer any assistance. Here is their webpage: http://www.kerrylibrary.ie/local.asp
Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
Genealogy Support
