Would like to confirm that Ann (Nancy) Camac was Ann Eagleson, Garvaghy, Co Tyrone. Think she was born approx 1814 - parents unknown, married William Camac, Garvaghy approx 1838. The children I have found are Martha 1843. Margaret 1845, MaryAnn 1847.Charlotte 1851, Eliza 1853. Jane 1854, Catherine 1856, William 1859, Maria 1863. There may be more, or perhaps some of these are not William and Ann from Garvaghy. I have a small DNA connection to Maria and Margaret and perhaps William.

William is a "hard" one as this is a known 2nd cousin who is related to me via his mother, she was my G Aunt, but I now feel that my cousin may also be related via Ann Camac his Grandmother. My great grandmother was Ann Jane Eagleson daughter of Joseph Eagleson.

Any suggestions of where to look from here appreciated.

They were presbyterian.

Thanks,

Maureen.

  • Maureen,

There are 4 townlands called Garvaghy in Tyrone. I assume the one your family came from is in Errigal Keerogue parish because I found this family in the 1901 census:

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tyrone/Errigal/Garvagh…

Griffiths Valuation for 1860 has a John Cammock there on plots45 & 46 which was a corn mill and 73 acre farm. There was also a William Cammock on plot 55 a 34 acre farm which I presume is your family.

Tradition was to marry in the bride’s church. If she was Presbyterian too then they probably both attended the same church. The nearest appears to be Ballygawley. Their baptism & marriage records only start in 1842 and so if that’s where they married you are unlikely to find a record of it. However many of the children were baptised after 1842 and so you may get the mother’s maiden name from that.

On the off-chance that the Eagleson family was Church of Ireland (the 1901 census of Tyrone has some Eaglesons who were that denomination) then Errigal Keerogue’s records start in 1812, so you could check them for the marriage.

There are copies of both sets of records in PRONI in Belfast. I don’t think they are on-line anywhere yet. So a personal visit is required to view them.

Probate abstracts: The Will of William Camac late of Garvahey County Tyrone Farmer who died 20 April 1886 at same place was proved at Armagh by William Camac of Garvaghy Farmer one of the Executors.

The will itself is on-line on the PRONI site. It mentions his wife and children William, Charlotte, Maria, Catherine and Charlotte. All his other children were formally excluded.

Camac William of Garvaghy county Tyrone farmer died 28 May 1931 Administration Londonderry 15 December to Robert Camac farmer. Effects £269 17s. 4d.

    Ann Camac died in 1898:
