Have previously posted re Capt John Haire, died Glasslough 1861, regarding his ancestry, (my Great Great Great grandfather). Unable to locate previous threads including from Margaret71. However after research via Proni, Ireland Genealogy on-line and Ireland Genealogy Project, (an on-line parish transcipt volunteer service - good for Fermanagh) I submit the following scenario for feedback.
John Haire's probate lists Francis Haire of Drumcrin (Ferm - 1809 - 1875) as an executor. I believe him to be a nephew. Data to go back from there is so far unavailable. However I believe Francis' father could also be Francis.
The earliest Haires that i have found are;
- James Haire of Cabra, Mon, with a Clogher diocese will in 1796
- Francis Haire of Rooskey, Mon, with a Clogher will dated 1817
- Robert Haire of Rooskey, Mon, with a Clogher Will dated 1799
- William Hare buried Lisnaskea, Ferm., 1810 aged 72 years. with descendents possibly in Carrickapolin.
Other haires of Capt John's vintage are;
William, Carrickapolin, Ferm, 1772 - 1864; James, Carranewy, Ferm, 1785 - 1860; James, Rooskey, Mon, 1794 - 1875; John, Drumcrin, 1794 to 1865, died single and I believe a brother to the Francis of Drumcrin.
A proposition that Capt John was the youngest son of James Haire of Balfour Castle/Armagh Manor, Ferm, is still possible. However that family is well documented with no mention of John. Also he joined the monaghan militia in 1793 not the Fermanagh Militia.
My questions from the above are;
- can anyone extropalate from the older Monaghan Haires down?
- are the wills from Clogher Diocese still existing somewhere other than the index.
I realise this is bare info but someone might know of one of the above. I do have more info on many of the later haire families if needed.
Thanks Bill O'Reilly,

Hello Bill
I have found a record of a James H Haire b. 1794 d 1/5/1875, Rooskey, Co Monaghan. His wife's name Anne
Son s James and John. Daughters Anne Jane and Susan.
Francis Snr. son Johnston b. 1850 inherited the property at Rooskey and his decendants live there to-day, I have
met with them on a couple of occasions but unfortunately they do not know anything of their ancestry apart from what |I have told them.
I think Francis Snr's father may have been William as he named his first son William b. 1845. I think I recall that James H of Castlebalrour had a brother William so
that could be the line we need to follow if possible. James also had a brother Arthur.
Will research my records and come back to you.

Hello Bill
Sorry ,I made a mistake in my last reply, Should have read William Haire b. 1700 and Arthur Haire b. 1702 were sons of Joseph Haire and Anna Cathcart and
therefore Uncles of James Haire/Castlebalfour. More info which may interest you:- Capt John Haire is buried in Drumsnatt cemetery which is across the road from
where the preent Haire family live in Rooskey, Co Monaghan..
