I'm looking for the marriage of Edmond Carey to Mary Duggan abt 1822.  I found an Edmond Carey listed in the Tithe Appotments in 1828 in Ballymacoolymore, Modeshil, Co.Tipperary.  This could be him.  My understanding is that the RC Parish would be Mullinahone.  I'd like to find his marriage record and/or the baptisms of his children.  Catherine b.abt 1823; Michael b abt 1826; Mary Ann b abt 1828; William b abt 1831; Edmond (or Edward) b abt 1833; Elizabeth b abt 1836 and Patrick b abt 1839.  This family emigrated to Canada before 1845.

Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Lynn,

    Thank you for your message.

Yes you are correct, the civil parish of Modeshil is part of the Catholic parish of Mullinahone.

Most Catholic records are still held locally so you may have to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Mullinahone parish, follow this link:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Tipperary%20South&parish=Mullinahone&churchid=277

There are also some online sites that have some church records available:

www.familysearch.org has a large collection of genealogical records including some Irish birth and marriage records.

www.rootsireland.ie also has a large collection of church records however you have to pay to use this site.

You could also contact the heritage centre in South Tipperary as they may have scanned copied of records. However, you may have to pay for their services. Here are their contact details:

    Bru Boru Cultural Centre,

    Rock of Cashel,

    Cashel,

    Co. Tipperary.

    Phone: +353 (0) 62 61122 Email: eolas@bruboru.ie

    I hope this is helpful.

    Kind regards,

  • Emma,

Thank you for your suggestions.  In the time since I posted my query, I've learned that the Carey family was from Mockler's Hill near Cashel and not Modeshil as I had thought.  I do appreciate your time and interest in responding to me.

    Regards,

    Lynn
