Creevolan is the townland in Creeve Roscommon is where the Carney's lived, Peter Carny died the 18 Aug 1832 aged 86 years and there was a Gravestone errected by his son Michael,

In the 1901 Creevolan census there is a Peter aged 60, sons Michael 16 & Martin 13, his wife was Mary Shannon who had died in 1890 aged 40, Peter died in 1917 aged 77, year of birth for Peter 1840, Peter's parents were Michael Carney & Bridget Flanagan,

In the same townland of Creevolan there is a Martin Carney who was married to Catherine Boyd, Martin's age in the 1901 census was 59, Martin died 1909 aged 69, year of birth for Martin 1840/1, Martin's parents were Peter Carney & Bridget Dolan

My question is would ye think Peter who died in 1832 was the father of Michael & Peter, Thank you

  • P. Ryan:

The father of the Peter who married Mary Shannon was Michael. Likely the Peter who died in 1832 was the grandfather of the younger Peter.
