Hello, I am searching for information on the Ancestors of my Great, Great Grandfather, of Piercestown Wexford. He was George Carney who Married a Catherine Aspel. He was a Memorial Stonemason. Some documents also list "Mountain" as the place they lived. His son William Carney (1850) migrated to Australia and started a family branch here. William worked on the seas for many years. I was wondering what happened to the family once William left.I had also wondered if his parents are buried at Wexford. He also had a brother (1843) called George.Other names mentioned on Baptismal records are ... Whitty and Essy Carney (?short for Esther). Any suggestions for Carney or Aspel research appreciated and information on "Mountain". Thanks
Pam Ella

In addition to William baptised in Wexford Town in 1850, the couple had at least one earlier child George jnr. baptised in parish of Piercetown on the 30th July 1843. An alternate name for the parish is Mourintown or Murrinstown, I suspect that a mishearing of this may account for 'Mountain'.
The couple married in Piercetown/Murrinstown RC parish on the 6th October 1834, no residences are given, the witnesses appear to be a Martin Culleton and James Savage. If George or Catherine lived past 1864 when civil registration it may be possible to find deaths for them. There is one possible match for George Kearney (a variant of Carney) in the correct registration Wexford during 1876 with an estimated year of birth of 1789. The free IrishGenealogy currently includes death register images back to 1878, but worth keeping an eye on for the update due later this year to see if that could be 'your' George. The BMD Index also shows at least on Catherine Carney death in the same district and year so worth checking details on that also..
