I'm trying to find information on the CARR family branch of my family tree.
Carr is the spelling my family has used since coming to the U.S.
In Ireland, KERR is how it was spelled, and even one record mis-spelled it as KAR
Here is what i know:
Edward Kerr was born 14 Jan 1865 in Fannett, Donegal, Ireland.
His father was Charles Kerr (born approx 1832)
His mother was Grace Gallagher (born approx 1834)
His parents were married in Ireland
They arrived in the U.S. 16 May 1866 -- I had a copy of their ship's manifest naming Charles Kerr ( age 32), Grace Kerr (age 32), Daniel (9) and Mary (7)
I hoping to find dates of birth / baptism for Charles and Grace, marriage info and possibly info about Charles and Grace's parents.
Thank you in advance,
Howard King

Howard:
Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out!
The Kerrs lived in Leatbeg townland in Clondavaddog civil parish. We have a parish liaison for Clondavaddog and I will alert him to your message. Because of the Holidays, it may be a few years before you hear back.

One of my colleagues pointed out that I showed "a few years" in my response to you when I meant " a few weeks". Sorry!

Thank you Roger, and Welcome Howard,
My apologies for the delay, with it being Christmas and an important family Holiday, it meant I had to wait for the correct opportunity to get back to you. Based souly on the information given by yourself Howard on the above message, I went looking for any family records I could find for Edward Kerr and sure enough just as Roger has said correctly already, the Townland of Leatbeg in Fanad is the location that is coming up for this Kerr family in Irishgeneology.ie. Because 1864 is the time Civil Registration was starting off in Ireland, Edward Kerr is the only relative in this Family that a Civil Record would be available for.
Civil Register) Edward Kerr b.14Jan1865, Parents Charles Kerr & Grace Gallagher, Leatbeg, Fanad West, Donegal
Leatbeg, Fanad - Google Maps Search
I found this in the Church Register for Massmount R.C Chapel in Fanad:
Church Register) Edward Kerr bap.Jan1865, Parents Charles Kerr & Grace Gallagher, Godparents: James Kerr & Mary Gallagher. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS6K-S9GC-K?cat=353019
In regards to your message: They arrived in the U.S. 16 May 1866 -- I had a copy of their ship's manifest naming Charles Kerr ( age 32), Grace Kerr (age 32), Daniel (9) and Mary (7), I hoping to find dates of birth / baptism for Charles and Grace, marriage info and possibly info about Charles and Grace's parents.
# Unfortunately, I cannot find any baptism record for a Mary Kerr as a daughter of Charles and Grace Gallagher, I wonder could this be Catharine (below) and not Mary Kerr as was recorded in the Manifest?
# I am afraid R.C Baptismal Records only started in 1846 and because of this you will not be able to get any Baptismal record for Charles Kerr or for Grace Gallagher unless perhaps she happened to be not Roman Catholic.
# R.C Marriage Records started in 1846, however after a thourough search of the register, I cannot seem to find any for Charles Kerr or Grace Gallagher ??
I went looking for Church Records of any other other siblings and I am displaying results using Family Search:

I am hoping this is of some help or interest to you Howard.

Howard,
I will get this message attached to the Parish of Clondavaddog as soon as I can in 2018:
https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland/donegal/clondavaddog-donegal
I would also highly recommend you add a Profile for Edward Kerr on the Ancestor Section for this Parish.
I will be off great interest to have a record of this lifestory for other Kerr Families living present day "between the waters" in and around near Leatbeg.

I was contacted today by another person doing ancestry on the Carr family. We are DNA matches but can't figure out where we match.
She did have a Mary Carr (also spelled Corr) born about 1833 in Philadelphia. Mary's father was Bernard Carr/Corr was born 1796 in Ireland and Mary's mother was Mary Walls born 1798.
My Carr's were in Ireland until 1866 (Charles Kerr/Kar/Carr/Corr) so her Mary is not a sibling of my ancestor. But possibly her Bernard Carr is a sibling of my Charles Carr's father ?
Are there any records for Bernard Carr born 1796 and of his parents and/or siblings?
Have a great day,
Howard

Hi Howard,
As I said above in my earlier reply I am afraid Roman Catholic Baptismal Records only started in 1846, followed by Marriage Records in 1847 in Massmount Chapel, Tamney, Fanad.
I am attaching below a list of dates available to veiw records in RootIreland.ie for other vocations:
Presbyterian (Fanad) started 1827
Church of Ireland (Clondavaddog) started 1794
Roman Catholic (Clondavaddog) started 1846

The fact that you were able to trace your Carr family to a given location, namely Leatbeg, back in 1850's is an extremely good find and it would be rare enough, l can asure you.
Chances are if their is a DNA connection, it is possible that their Carr family came from there or nearby that Townland in West Fanad, but it is just too far back to find any records .
All the best, Seamus

Hi was just looking through some old stuff and saw your message. I have Carrs, Kerrs,Friels,Gallagher, Callaghan Cannons,Coyle,Gibons and Martins of course from North Fanad, my cousin still lives on the Fanad land.
I put the nake king in ancestry I have matches to that name but did not see a Howard. If you did a DNA test we could compare kits. Mine is A960797.
