Looking for any information on descendants of the Carroll family/ies of Aghnamullen. My husband's 3 x g grandfather Peter Carroll born c.1821 came from there and migrated to Australia in 1841. According to the ship manifest (attached) his parents were Thomas Carroll and Mary.

Thanks,

Brooke

  • In the 1829 Tithe Applotments, there were two Thomas Carrolls and one Peter Carroll in Aghnamullen. See:

    I hope this helps.

  • Hi Brooke,

Subscription site - www.rootsireland.ie - has a record of the marriage of a Thomas Carroll to a Mary Martin in Clones RC Church on November 25th 1824. Witnesses: Catherine Maguire and her daughter Sarah. A check for a Peter Carroll was negative.

I attachTithe record of land valuation in County Monaghan in the years 1823 - 1832 for a Thomas Carroll. Not shown in Aghnamullen.

Griffith's land Valuations taken c1860 and printed in 1861 has a Thomas Carroll farming c21 acres in the townland of Lagan. There is a schoolhouse recorded there, so it may have records for for Peter Carroll.

  • Hi,

I don't know where my Carroll family originated in Ireland but my great grandfather, John Carroll, arrived in Massachusetts, USA around 1870 and worked in a foundry in Lowell, MA.

My brother and my daughter have DNA loaded on Gedmatch.com..  (kit # A834397 JOE CARROLL, A198766 CMC Christie Cunningham)

If you load your Carroll DNA to this website and we have a match, please let me know!

    Thanks,

    Joanne Carroll

  • Hi Joanne,

Thanks for the info - I just checked on Gedmatch and you're not a match unfortunately for either kits :(

Best of luck finding your Carroll clan!

    Thanks,

    Brooke
