I am trying to locate the community from which my great-grandmother emigrated as I hope to visit it someday. Below is what I know about her at this time.
Catherine Nary, my great-grandmother
Born 4 July 1843 in Ireland, County Galway to Huey and Nary (Mary?).

Listed in the 1860 United States Federal Census as Kale Nary along with
Maggie Nary. I assume Maggie is Catharine’s sister as she is also recorded in the Mills Family Bible. In this census Catherine is listed
as a Mantua maker. The location is Kokomo, Howard County, Indiana.
Married 12 March 1861 in Kokomo, Howard County, Indiana to Caswell S.
Mills.

Listed in the 1880 United States Federal Census living in Ackley, Hardin
County, Iowa. Also listed are her husband, Caswell S. Mills, and
children Carrie Bell, Mary Bohan, C.L., M.H., and F.N.
Died: 16 August 1892 in Ackley, Hardin County, Iowa. She is buried in
Oakwood Cemetery there.

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and found one possible lead in the Glinsk RC church in East Galway not far from the Roscommon border. However, the record is for 1837 and the mother is shown as a Bridget. I looked at the actual parish register entry which is in Latin and Bridget's maiden name appears to be Caran? Many of the Galway RC parishes do not go back to 1842 so it is very possible that Catherine's baptismal record is not available.
I also looked at the Griffiths Valuation records from the mid-19th century and the only Hugh Neary/Nary listed in Co. Galway was in Aghalateeve townland in Kilbegnet civil parish which corresponds to the record shown below (An alternate name for Glinsk RC parish is Kilbegnet). One caution. We do not know if the father of Catherine was still living in the 1850s and we also do not know if he was leasing land and was captured in the Griffiths survey.

Thank you very much for your message and that it came so promptly. I am away from home for a few days and away from my papers, but I wanted to thank you for the information you found. I think I did find Bridget and family in a United States Census in Iowa and that location made sense to me. I did not see Maggie Nary’s name on the list of children on that census. Maggie is mentioned in the Mills Family Bible and I am assuming she is Catharine’s sister. The Mills Family Bible records Maggie as having been born in 1848 in Crage (I have not been able to find this) Lower County Galway. Maggie married Richard Miner in the United States. I can send a little more information about her when I get home to my papers.
