Hello,

I am searching for any information on Catherine Kennedy born Hartigan approximately 1795 and her husband was David Micheal Kennedy, and that is all I know of him.  Catherine had 2 children, Catherine and Michael Kennedy.  Michael and Catherine were born in Limerick Co., Ireland.  Michael on November 1831, and Catherine between 1843 and 1845.

I am thinking they came to the United States during the famine years, but not sure.  Catherine died January 12, 1881 in St. Joseph, Berrien, Michigan USA.

Michael married Elizabeth Kennedy (born Duffy).  He died March 20, 1917 in Benton Township., Berrien Co., Michigan USA.  He had 4 children, Catherine, John E., Edward and Elizabeth.

Catherine married John Hickey August 28, 1870, at St. Vincent, Boston, Massachusetts USA.  They had 6 children.  James Franklin, Micheal L., John, William, David (my grandfather) and Edward George.

I would appreciate any information I can get.  I have tried and tried and can find nothing on David Micheal Kennedy and his and Catherine's marriage.

Thank you,

Alma Stafford

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find a marriage record or baptismal records for the two children. The Kilcornan RC parish records go back to 1825 https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0874  so I'm not sure why the records are not available.

I did locate a possible lead on the 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Nantinan civil parish. Nantinan parish is just to the south of Kilcornan. Residents from the parish would have attended Kilcornan parish. The Griffiths showed a David Kennedy in Callow townland in Nantinan parish https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/limerick/nantinan.htm   Very likely this is your ancestor.

Likely they emigrated to America sometime after 1850.

  • Roger,

Thank you so much for this information.  I will start lopking into this.  I just have never found anything on David Kennedy here in the states or Ireland.  Maybe Catherine and Davide got divorced there or he died, and she came to the United States with her 2 children.  Catherine's son Michael swore in a diposition for my great grandmother Catherine (Kennedy) Hickey for widow's pension that he knew my great grandfather John Hickey when they were in Ireland.  John Hickey was from Limerick.

I appreciate the time you spent looking into this for me.  This has always been a brick wall for me.

    Roger,

Could you try Roots Ireland for Catherine Hickey (born Hartigan) please?  I do not have a subscription and maybe something would come up on her birth or marriage and her parents, siblings etc. I would really appreciate it.

I already checked for the marriage record and it was not available. I searched for Catherine Hartigan baptismal records. There was one in 1791 and one in 1812, none in between. The 1791 record was in Limerick city. See below.. Limerick city is a good deal to the east of Kilcornan.
