i am almost positive that I have discovered the maiden name of my third great grandmother. Her grandparents were Peter Kinane 1748-1809 and Kitty Ryan. One of their daughters, Margaret Kinane 1787-1861,  married Patrick Ryan. All of the names are accounted for except two daughters. A DNA Cousin in Ireland found a notation that Unknown daughter married a Ryan and emigrated to the US. The other daughter married a Carr and I have DNA matches with Carr. My Catherine Ryan was Born in Upperchurch around 1810. She emigrated to the US around 1848 as in the US Census of 1850. She came with children, Patrick 1825, Mary 1830, Jeremiah 1833 to Galena, Illinois. I would like help finding some kind of documentation. I found a tombstone for Peter Kinane erected years later in Gilkeny Cemetery in Upperchurch. Thanks! This has been a long journey to find Catherine’s identity.

  • Hi Reilly Ryan, Did you locate  your Catherine Ryan through  death certs, or Census.

Catholic church records for the united parishes of Upperchurch and Drumbane started in 1829.

There were three Graveyards in these Parishes ,There appears to be two in Upperchurch one in Templebeg and one in Kilvalure.  none are on line at either Tipperary Studies Digitisatiom Project or  Historic Graves.

A gentleman  Michael Mcgrath enumerated Upperchurch you should be able to google it.

A lot of Ryan,s but one headstone put up by a Kinane lady  Kinane a very scarce name in the area,  You mention a cemetary in Gilkeny Upperchurch with a tombstone to Peter Kinane.  I could not locate it . In Griffiths  Valuation www.askaboutireland.ie  I found a widow Johanna Kinane in civil parish Moyaliffe.  In the 1911 census  DED Moyaliff found some in  Ballycahill Templebeg, Kilvalane and Clareen Ballycahill.

There is a Ryan DNA , group on Facebook doing great   work and very helpful, if you google Ryans of Tipperary and Limerick,

Let me know if you have any questions.
