My ancestor Charles Crowley was a convict sent out to Sydney, Australia. It was reported he had a tattoo and I wondered if anyone here would have an idea as to what it meant? His tattoo was ECCCNCRL. Charles was born about 1893 in Cork, I don't know who his parents were. He never returned to Ireland.

Do you have his birth date correct? I believe that they stopped transporting convicts to Australia in 1868.
