Hi, my name is Stephen Moore, I am a New Zealand descendent of Charles Moore (1799-1873), born Oughteragh (County Leitrim) deceased in Onehunga New Zealand. There are thousands of descendants like me of Charles. A key question has been who are the forebears of Charles (the first, as he is known). I have seen family trees on Ancestry.com and here: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/2:2:3D78-167, that show his mother listed as Eleanor and his father listed as, Jacob Moore from Shenandoah Virginia. He in turn has a very long Moore linage that goes back to 1300. Can anyone cite evidence/sources please to validate the link between Charles Moore and his parents listed here? Thanks.

Stephen:
The Church of Ireland records for Oughteragh parish start in 1833 so there would be no record of Charles's baptism. I did see about ten Moore baptismal records in the Oughteragh C of I church records from 1833-1862 but connecting them to Charles and his parents would be very difficult.
I checked the 1834 Tithe listings for Oughteragh parish and there were eight Moore records listed http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/results.jsp?…
Have you looked into DNA testing? Possibly you will get matches with Moore descendants who have more information on the family lines.
By the way, I got an error message when I used the link to the Familysearch.org tree.

Hi Roger, thank you for your research. Here is the corrected link: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/2:2:3D78-167 if you select the arrow to the right of Charles and Isabella in the diagram shown you will see his parents listed as Jacob and Eleanor. In fact, according to the information in the diagram, his father Jacob had two spouses, and his place of birth was Virginia. Signing into the familysearch.org website I sent an inquiry to 'Natasha1982' who submitted the information, but no response yet. I do have DNA for myself. I suppose if I could find a descendent of Jacob and match DNA that would validate. Thanks again for your input. Regards.
