Hi, My great grand uncle, John Grinham, filed for a Civil War pension which I recently discovered. In the documents was a letter from his daughter which named the townland he was born in which was very exciting to find. I knew he lived in Roscommon but that was all. It seems she may have misspelled the name so first I was hoping someone could verify that and tell me the correct spelling.
Secondly, I wanted to see it anyone could point me to any resources that might include a local history of Clonbegan. A written history or perhaps some recent photos of gravestones in the town. Anything would be appreciated.

The likely spelling for the townland would be Cloonbeggaun.which is in Moore civil parish in South Roscommon. Unfortunately, the RC parish records for Moore parish do not begin until 1872. Earlier records were likely lost.
Here is a link to the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Moore civil parish. https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/roscommon/moore.htm The surname was shown as Grenham and you will note five Grenham records in Cloonbeggaun including a Honoria which is likely Hanora Donlon Grinham.

Thank you so much Roger. I'll have a look at Griffiths. And yes I've seen Hanora as Honoria on some documents. Also, according to John Grenham, an author and genealogist, All Grinhams were Grenhams at some point. I thought he would be the perfect person to contact about the family but I've tried through his web site numerous times and he never replies even when I've requested a quote to hire him.
Do you know of any reference material on Cloonbeggaun other than what can be found on Google?

John Grenham is exceedingly busy so I'm not surprised that he has not responded.
