Hi there,

My name is Maria Bridges and I live in Pencoed Wales and have been researching my family history for many years. I am hoping to find more about my 3 xGGMother Bridget Cody., she first appears in Wales on the 1861 census for Aberavon Wales, as Bridget Egan although she did not marry Dennis Egan until 1873, but gives her place of birth as Ladysbridge Cork, which I beleive is in this parish. Her year of birth is not exact as she gives differing ages on the census which places her birth circa1830-35, but her marriage certificate gives a fathers name of William Cody deceased a labourer.

I would like to make contact with anyone who may know of the family and possibly have more information about Bridget. I am happy to share family information should any relatives be interested. Thank you for reading this post.

    I am just wondering if you know had Bridget any brothers or sisters? The reason i ask is the Baptismal Register for Ladysbridge only starts in June 1835 which is after the time space you have for her date of Birth.

    Griffiths Valuation (available to search on theNational Archives website for free) from Approx 1850 and the tithe Applotments for approx 1830 may have some information on the Father.

    Unfortunately I hve no idea about Bridget's siblings, all I really know was in my original message. Thank you for the information on the dates of the parish registers in Ladysbridge. Is there any way to find out information  on nearby Catholic parishes, as perhaps Bridget was baptised there? In the meantime I will defiantely take a look on the sites you mentioned, thanks again for replying it's much appreciated.

  • Hi Maria I’ve just found this site, I was born in Aberavon and my grandmother s mother was Mary Egan one of Bridget s daughters . Did you find out more ? Thanks Ger Black
