I am So Grateful to have come across this site, & hope to find my GrandParents, for whom i have been searching for 2 years.
Here is what i know:
My Gr-Grandfater, John Concannon, married Mary Nocton (Naughton) on 2/27/1871 in the RC Knock Church in Spiddle.
At the time, John ws 24, giving a birth date about 1846; Mary was 30, giving a birth date about 1841.
I have NO IDEA what parish this is, nor do i have any idea how to get a copy of their civil marriage record. Suggestions? Contact Address? Parish?
HELP!
According to what i have uncovered (w/ help) to date, John's father's name was Michael Concannon. I have no info on his mother's name.
Michael & John were farmers, & residents of Alia.
I have searched Griffith's to no avail, so i believe Michael had already passed away before the Valuation. Did the Famine claim his life?
There is one "Sally" Concannon ... his widow?
It appears that Mary & John's children went to "Scol Sailerna;" they were:
Michael: b. Spiddle Galway, 6 Jun 1872
Wenifred: B. Galway 14 Jun 1877
Mathew Joseph: B. Galway 14 Oct 1878
James: B. Galway 30 Aug 1887
John: b: Galway 23 Oct 1879
IF i'm looking at the correct 1911 Census (& i'm not sure), there is also another sister, Julie/Julia.
There is a notation that 8 children were born, 7 living in the early 1900s, so two are "lost."
I know Mat (my Grandfather), James, & Julia emigrate to the US. There are tantalizing clues for Michael & Wenifred, but nothing certain.
MY GR-GRANDMOTHER: Mary Naughton
(marriage index = "Nocton")
Mary was a servant and a resident of Pourine. Her father was John Nocton, a farmer.
Witnesses to the marriage were: Stephen Curran** & Kate Nocton (Naughton?)
But, again, ignorance is hindering my search, as i am woefully ignorant as to how to identify WHICH Griffith's to use!! How do i move backwards from "Spiddle" to "Ailia,' & what are all the Baronies/Townlands/etc. named?
Can anyone PLEASE help me solve the riddle of identifying Parishes/Registration Districts & "places" in Griffith's Valuation? Does anyone "at home" in Ireland know my branch of the family ('tis said here we are all related!)
Is MOYCULLEN a place/district/Poor Law name i should consider?
Are any relatives alive who would be willing to provide more family history?
MANY, MANY thanks. And: great to meet the rest of the Concannon Clan :)
Mary Concannon, USA
** Are Concannons & Currans related? I am trying to untangle THAT web in the Norwood, MA, USA end.

Mary:
The Concannons lived in Aille townland, Killannin parish. Below is the 1901 census record which was incorretly transcribed as Cancannon instead of Concannon. Also below is the Griffiths Valuation data for Killannin which includes a Michael Concannon.

At www.familysearch.org, I found a marriage index record for a John Concannon in 1871 in the Galway registration district. Not sure if this is your John Concannon. You can write to the GRO to get a copy of this record. www.groireland.ie Fill out the form and provide the data below.
John Concannon Event Type: Marriage Event Date: 1871 Event Place: Galway, Ireland Registration Quarter and Year: 1871 Registration District: Galway Age: Birth Year (Estimated): Mother's Maiden Name: Volume Number: 4 Page Number: 395 Regarding the Naughtons, check the Griffiths Valuation above. There is a John Naughton listed for Inveran townland.

Does anyone know if the son John Concannon noted above emigrated to USA, and ended up living in Philadelphia? If so, he might be my grandfather
