My great-great-grandfather, Thomas Conroy, emigrated to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia in the late 1850's (he married here in 1859). We're lucky to have quite detailed birth, death and marriage certificates in Victoria and amongst some certificates relating to the Conroy's it seems to pinpoint Eyrecourt as Thomas' place of birth. He was born c.1831-1833 and his parents were John and Eleanor Conroy.

Is anyone researching this family or might be able to give me any pointers how I might go about finding out more about them? Are there possibly Conroy's still living in Eyrecourt?

Best wishes,

Sean

  • Hello Sean,

It is good to hear from you and welcome to your ancestoral home of Eyrecourt. There is a Conroy family in Eyrecourt but I think they originated from outside the village perhaps form the neighbouring parish. Conroy is a common name in the nearby parish of Fahy. I will make some enquires from the family and will also ask some of our older parishioners. They are great at putting family groups together. Please keep in touch. I will be back to you shortly with some further material.

  • Se?n,

My name is Aidan Conroy from Eyrecourt and would like to help you if I can. My father, John, originated from near Killimor, Co. Galway. His father, Denis, was born circa 1884 and died in 1933, which would probably mean that his grandfather, also named Denis would have been born somewhere around 1850. If Thomas had a male relative Denis, married to Elizabeth Brady, then there is likely to be a connection. If so, I would be grateful for any information you may have.
