My GG grandparents left Fuhir with their six children for Fall River, Mass. I have located all six children and my GG grandfather. I have not found his wife, Margaret Conroy-Sullivan. I wonder did she die before departing, not survive the trip? Can any lead me to departure ship records from this area? I would also love to find Patrick Sullivan DOB 1809 and Margaret Conroy DOB 1810 marriage record. I have all of the birth records of their chidlren. I am seeking living relatives. Fourtuantely we have maintained a small family as direct descendents of these two people. A small group of cousins, very small, are close here in the States. Any suggestions are welcome.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Here is a link to the parish register for Allihies  RC parish records https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0005  There is a gap in the marriage records from February 1826 until January 1832. I think it is likely that the marriage occurred in the gap period. The baptismal records show the first child (Margaret) in April 1827 but a ten year gap until the second child (Timothy) in January 1837. You may want to check the parish register for other children who may have died young.

There are no departure ships records for Ireland in the 19th century.

Civil registration of deaths started in 1864 and very few churches maintained death records (Allihies did not) so there is no way to determine if Margaret died in Ireland.

You may want to add Patrick and Margaret's emigration story to our XO Chronicles site and possibly some one will see a connection  https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…

    Have you considered DNA testing?

  • Thank you, yes, there is a large gap between the first and second birth. Yes, I have done DNA through ancestry and I have had one distant cousin from Ireland reach out to me. I will follow your link and post my story. Thank you so much for your response. I am grateful.

There is a volunteer run site called Gedmatch www.gedmatch.com where you can load your raw DNA data and see if you match people who tested with another company (and also loaded their DNA data to Gedmatch). It expands your matching pool.
