I am interested in finding out exactly where Lish, County Armagh is?

I believe the family of Ensign Edward Courtenay resided there, with his wife Frances Moore.  His line goes back to the Courtenays of Powderham Devon.  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Courtenay-782

I have been unable to find out where Lish is?  Edward is said to be buried in Killaloe - but I think that might be County Clare?

It has been suggested that Lish might be Aughlish?  http://www.placenamesni.org/resultdetails.php?entry=11737. Could this be it?

Any ideas appreciated.

  • Can’t really help with Lish. It might be Lesh. There are 2 townlands named Lesh in the parishes of Loughgilly & Killevy respectively. Both in Armagh. However I see that there are 583 trees on Ancestry with this family. Most have Edward born in Powderham in 1631 and dying in Co Antrim in March 1707. (No source citations, as is so often the case. So can't say how reliable that information is). 2 children born in Co Armagh. You could try contacting some of the tree owners to see if they have any documentation that might help you. Many Irish townland names have chnaged or disappeared since the 1600s, so it would be helpful to know the sources that give it as a place of birth.
